Sexism & Broken Contracts

Today I should be celebrating a hit book, instead I am reminded of the inequality we face as women.

I will not name the other authors or companies involved in this dispute at this time. However, I may be forced to do so in the future. Perhaps it will be the subject of a promotional tour for my book.

As a feminist, I am deeply troubled by the unequal treatment of female authors in the publishing industry. Despite the strides that have been made towards gender equality, it is clear that there is still a long way to go. This was painfully evident to me recently when I worked with a promotional company that failed to fulfill their duties in promoting my work.

The book I have written is both timely and important. It is a work that explored the experiences of women in the writing industry, and it was intended to raise awareness about the persistent barriers that women face and ways to over come them.

I should be celebrating a hit book along with two other authors. Instead, I am fuming because the male authors charted at #1 and #3 with the same company I am working with, while my book did not. The promoter sighted problems with both Amazon’s system and a promotional partner and did provide evidence of both. However, I am still beside myself and I know it is because they are men and I am a women who dares to speak her mind. How could my book have two errors in a campaign while the men’s books did not? Coincidence? I think not. It’s impossible for lightning to strike the same place twice. There was clearly a high level of gross negligence involved, because of a lack of respect based on obvious inequalities.

Sexism exists! It’s hard to achieve as a women, men don’t help they only get in the way.
